Cambodia 2007

I visited Cambodia with friends Kim and Marc. We all shared our photos, and Marc also put together his own webpage.

Kim and Marc were there as well. Marc sporting his then new 'I give up' hairstyle. Swimming to Cambodia? No. Flying on Bangkok Airways. Landing in Siem Reap, the modern town adjacent to the temples of Angkor Wat. It's a long way betwen the sites, so you need to rent transportation. Angkor Wat itself. I won't attempt to desribe the meaning of the buildings and sculptures. Suffice it to say that Angkor Wat is the most amazing place I've ever visited. Walking over the causeway. Our guide: Prony. Kim and Marc, on the edge. Don't jump. There's a lot of violent imagey, if you look for it. Most of the sculptures were originally painted. A few still bear the remains of this paint. The next picture will explain this sign... Angkor Wat means "steep stairs". Some of the temples are overgrown with trees. The trees are slowly undermining the walls, but the plan is to let this happen in some ruins. Korean tourists. Lion guardians to a temple. Where the drivers go when the tourists are touring. Elephants (background only). In case you get lost. The weather was great. Blue skies every day. These beautiful faces are called "Apsara". Two beautiful faces. I bought a painting from this artist. Looking down on Angkor Wat at sunset. Local taxi service. Despite the fact that the sites were teaming with tourists, you could still be alone from time to time. Ornate doorway. There are still many outlying temples that are inaccessible due to landmines. This temple had ben cleared only a couple of years previously. The tourists are hiding. Or perhaps the tourists are shopping. Library. Monks. Siem Reap is a giant building site - cashing in on the new rush of tourists. Market time. Downtown Siem Reap. Actually more charming than it looks.
